Papanui Now Able To Settle Score
To help the Canterbury selectors form a squad to play Auckland on June 1, the Canterbury Rugby Lague board of control has selected the Papanui Domain as the venue for all four senior matches today.
The main game will be between Marist and Papanui. In the Barr Cup elimination match earlier in the season Marist defeated Papanui, 213. However, in that match Papanui played without G. C. Blackler, G. H. Clarke, S. Dunn, and, for the first half, G. R. Cooper. The inclusion of these players will even the game considerably and, on last Saturday’s form, Papanui will be hard to beat. Last week Marist failed miserably against Hornby but with so many outstanding players in the team a return to form is probable.
Of the other matches the Christchurch - Addington encounter looks the most interesting. Addington, newlypr moted to the senior grade, scored a well-deserved win over last year’s champions, Linwood, last week. Christchurch came from behind to defeat' Sydenham when the promising young centre, J. Hawthorne, scored all 11 points. How he fares against P. M. White today will be of interest. In the early games Hornby
should dispose of Sydenham and Linwood must be hot favourites to beat Kaiapoi. However, after last week, no result could be too much of a surprise.
