BENN DEATH SENTENCE

No Appeal To Be Made (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) PERTH, April 8. The Western Australian State Cabinet yesterday considered the Benn case, but will not make a decision until it has received the report of the trial judge and Crown law officers; it also is certain there will be no appeal. The Premier (Mr David Brand) said two approaches had been made to him to receive deputations connected with the Benn case, but he felt there would be no point in receiving them at this stage. Maurice Benn was last week sentenced to death for the murder of his four-year-old mentally retarded son. Benn’s solicitor (Mr J. Wheeldon) said last night, when told of Mr Brand’s statement: “We have definitely decided not to appeal and shall be informing the Government accordingly.”
