INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC

Holiday Course For Pupils

A holiday orchestral course for post-primary school pupils who have instrumental competence will be held at the Christchurch Teachers' College during the first term vacation. Applications are being invited throughout New Zealand. Players must have passed grade V of the Royal Schools of Music examination or reached an equivalent standard.

The holiday orchestra will be directed by the national adviser on school music (Mr W. H. Walden-Mills) assisted by Mr David Sell and several Christchurch instrumental teachers.

From May 11 to 16 the members will have solid group and full orchestra rehearsals with a good deal of background instruction on this type of work and there will be a mid-day demonstration concert on the last day. Many applications are expected from players of the more popular instruments and the organisers are specially keen to include the string bass, French horn, oboe, and bassoon. No limitations on acceptances have yet been announced.
