Easter Air Traffic A Record At Harewood
National Airways Corporation used 294 flights—including 146 special and charter flights—to move a record number of passengers through Christchurch Airport this Easter. The airline carried 10,539 passengers through Christchurch in the six days of the Easter holiday—an increase of 23 per cent on the number carried last year. Mr J. E. Davies, N.AC.’s Christchurch manager, said
that 5378 passengers were carried into Christchurch between Thursday and Tuesday, and 5161 out. The busiest day was Thursday, March 26, when the airport dealt with 72 N-A.C. aircraft movements, carrying 2977 passengers. Mr Davies said the holiday services, and particularly that peak day, taxed the corporation’s local resources to the limit. The staff had co-oper-ated fully and had been obliged to work long hours to provide the service. This they did willingly. Marginal weather conditions had prevailed at some airports but all passengers had been carried to and. from their destinations with a minimum loss of time.
