NO “LIVE” RUGBY

TV Policy I nchanged CNZ. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 2. The New Zealand Rugby Union will not change its policy on television for the next 12 months. A motion to this effect was carried unanimously and without discussion at the annual meeting of delegates in Wellington today. This policy is that there should be no “live” televising of Rugby, but that delayed telecasts may be shown after 7 p.m. on the day of the game. The chairman of the executive, Mr T. C. Morrison, said this decision had not been made lightly. It had been found after investigation that live telecasts of a game as prominent as Rugby is in New Zealand had only the effect of reducing attendances and the gates essential to the national running of the game. The N.Z.R F.U. council had discussed the subject again during the last year, and there w r as no change in its outlook. Mr Morrison moved that there should be no change in the policy.
