OIL ON ROAD
Inquiries By Dept. Large patches of oil on the road at the Riccarton road and Blenheim road roundabounts made it hazardous for traffic last evening. The oil was on the road in both places about 5.30 p.m. The Transport Department was informed by drivers and Riccarton Borough Council workmen spread sand and sawdust on the oil and then removed it.
Traffic was reaching its peak, and both cars and cyclists skidded in the oil, but there were no collisions or injuries. The oil inay have spilled from a load on a truck travelling through both roundabouts, but the council and department are making inquiries into what is considered could be more than a coincidence.
