Christchurch Choirs

Sir,—l thank “D.R.” for his suggestion, but I must make it clear that the Cathedral Choir will not be available to go to the Commonwealth Arts Festival. The suggestion that a choir, formed from our excellent choral societies of Christchurch, should go to the festival is one that will have my fullest support. However, it should be remembered that, at present, we have no firm invitation for them to do so, although we can confidently hope for such an invitation. When it comes, let us all show a proper sense of civic solidarity in considering it, and not confuse the issue with a lot of counter-proposals. We shall have more than enough of them from other parts of the country. As far as costs are concerned, it is much too early for uninformed calculations to be made.—Yours, C. FOSTER BROWNE. April 2, 1964.
