STRUCK BY TREE
Deer Culler Injured
A young deer culler who was struck by a falling tree in the back country behind Avoca last Tuesday was found dazed by a group of trampers yesterday morning. The man, Mr James Davis, of 36 Good street, Rangiora, was brought to Christchurch by train last evening and admitted to the Christchurch
Hospital where his condition is satisfactory. The guard of the train, Mr M. G. Cole, said the injured man was picked up at Avoca. “I do not know a great deal about what happened but I believe Mr Davis was sheltering under a tree when it blew down on him,” he said. “He was found this morning and was carried out to the Avoca railway station.” A railway surfaceman at Avoca notified train control in Christchurch and arrangements were made to have a special holiday train from Greymouth stopped. Mr Davis’s stretcher was put in the guard’s van shortly after 3 p.m. and transferred to a waiting ambulance when the train arrived at Addington. He was examined at Springfield by Dr. J. W. Avery, of Darfield. Mr Davis was admitted to hospital suffering from bruises, shock and exposure.
