TRANSPORT LICENCES

Applications Granted

"Greyhound Carriers seem to be running very well,” said the No. 9 Transport Licensing Authority (Mr J. S. Haywood) yesterday, when granting the application of D. M. Stirton, trading as Greyhound Carriers, for the addition of a second vehicle authority to a continuous goods licence. Mr Stirton (Mr J. A. Bretherton) said he had taken the licence over in November last year from two men who had run the goods service as a side-line. He now had so much work that he could not provide a fully efficient service for the growing demands of his regular customers, or undertake any further work with the one vehicle he had. Mr J. J. B. Connor represented the Christchurch Carriers’ Association. The changing in handling methods at the port of Lyttelton, and the use of the road tunnel had increased the volume of road traffic, and this, together with the expansion of business of the firm’s customers, were the points of public interest in the application for three additional vehicle licences from Horton, Bidwell and Company, Ltd., Christchurch, said the Authority. The application was granted. Mr Bretherton represented the applicant company and Mr Connor the Christchurch Carriers’ Association.

Other applications heard and granted by the Authority were: the transfer of a continuous goods service licence from D. J. Johnston to V. G. West, both of Christchurch, and both represented by Mr H. W. Hunter; the transfer of a rental service licence from Mutual Rental Cars, Ltd., Dunsandel, to Dunsandel Service Station, Ltd. (Mr G. S. Brockett); the transfer of a rental service licence from Sockburn Rentals, Ltd., to Wigram Services, Ltd. (Mr D. J. Clark); the transfer of a continuous goods service from A. J. Lugg, Governors Bay, to J. G. Crofts, Christchurch (both represented by Mr A. B. Harman); the amendment to a continuous goods service licence held by Habgoods (Christchurch) (Mr S. H. Wood), Ltd., to allow the firm to transport sand, shingle, and spoil.

In Minnesota it is illegal for anyone in the front seat of a moving car to put an arm around another person.
