Tours, Television Big Items Again
(New Zealand Press Association? WELLINGTON, March 24. Five nominations have been received for the three North Island positions and four for the three South Island places on the New Zealand Rugby Football Union council.
Those in the ballot at the annual meeting of the union in Wellington on April 2 are:— North Island.—Messrs R. L. Burk (Auckland), sitting member: C. E. Downes (Counties); J. L. Griffiths (Horowhenua), sitting member; F. P. O’Connor (Waikato); D. K. Ross (North Auckland), sitting member. South Island.—Messrs W. A. Craddock (Buller), sitting member: J. O. Hattersley (Canterbury); I. B. McCurdy (Southland), sitting member; C. K. Saxton (Otago), sitting member. The new president of the union will be Mr D. A. Palmer, of Otago. The vicepresidents will be Messrs T. H. Pearce (Auckland) and H. C. Blazey (Canterbuiy). The council executive will be unchanged, the seven sitting members being the only nominations. Maori Blazers The King Country union will ask that New Zealand Maori representative teams touring within New Zealand be awarded blazers “as are similar teams touring overseas or playing overseas teams in New Zealand.” The meeting will discuss television and club tours, matters which have been thrashed out at previous meetings but which are still the subject of controversy.
Delegates will hear the report of Mr F. D. Kilby, manager of the 1963-64 All Blacks, on the tour of the British Isles and France, and the report of the special International Rugby Board meeting on laws. After the day’s business there will be the annual fixtures meeting. The council will meet the day before and the day after the annual meeting.
