Canadians Urged To Eat More Fish
: For a. people surrounded by some of the world’s richest fishing grounds; Canadians eat surprisingly Jittie .fish—an average of .13,51 b per head according to the Federal Fisheries Department. The department has reminded women that many nutritionists think that fish should be the main protein food of a meal at least three times a week, instead .of just once a week as is usual in Canada.
Fish protein is as complete and digestible as' beef protein and, weight for weight, fish contains more protein than beef, according to the department. Fish is also usually cheaper. Fbr the weight-watcher, fish can be an important part ,of
a low calorie diet, but the department emphasises that no low calorie food remains so if cooked, in fqt or smothered in rich saiuce. ’ In addition to providing vitamin-packed liver oils fish contains iodine, copper, fluorine and phosphorus. - The extra . imagination needed to cook fish well will be repaid in food value and lower food costs, the department, says.—(Reuter.)
