HOSPITAL BUILDING

Confidence In Board

(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, March 19. The Minister of Health (Mr McKay) has full confidence in the ability of the North Canterbury Hospital Board to decide on priorities for its building programme and to take the necessary steps to obtain approvals for the planning and completion of the programme.

He was asked whether, if the recent estimate that the replacement building for the Christchurch Hospital would take five years to build was correct, he would favour a reasonable expenditure on overcrowded departments in the present hospital, especially orthopaedics and physiotherapy.

“Discussions have already taken place between the board and the Department of Health on facilities at the Christchurch Public Hospital,” Mr McKay said. “I am sure that the department and the board have a full appreciation of the position.”
