PLANNING ACT
Early Review Urged
Review of th* Town and Country Planning Act—a possibility mentioned by the Minister of Works (Mr Scott) at the recent Municipalities’ Association conference—was urgently needed, said Mr J. H. Weaver, chairman of the Paparua County Council. Mr Weaver told the annual meeting of Ward 11 of the New Zealand Counties’ Association that the act was difficult to follow and administer. Mr J. 1. Colligan, chairman of the Waimairi Countv Council, said a lot of changes could be made to the act, but some suggestions for improvement should be made. When the act was being reviewed the Counties’ Association should be consulted. “They might review it and make it worse than it is now," said Mr Colligan. Mr C. N. Mackenzie, of Walpara County, chairman of Ward 11, said the Town and Country Planning Appeal Board was more than a year behind with its work. A second court bad been set up to help, and that was an Indication that a lot of people were not very happy with the working of the act “We are having a lot of trouble in Paparua,” said Mr Weaver, “not so much with the act as with the regional authority—but that doesn’t come into it of course.”
The meeting decided to press for an early review of the act
