MOORINGS LOOSE
Gales Lash Wanganella (NZ. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Mar. 15. The hostel ship, Wanganella, moored in Deep Cove, is understood to have torn loose some of her moorings when gales of up to 60 miles per hour lashed her sheltered anchorage yesterday. The Wanganella is moored with three heavy steel stern hawsers and two bow anchors and a long bow line. It is not known how many tore loose, but it is known that it was sufficient to cause some concern. The ship is due soon to be winched to her permanent moorings up against the sheer rock sides of Deep Cove. The winds yesterday were higher than any expected in the sheltered spot chosen for the ship. An electrical storm near West Arm chopped out the land line there to Deep Cove yesterday, and up till late this evening communication had not been re-established. The line has been inspected from West Arm to the Wilmot Pass.
At Deep Cove, a slip cut the line near the Wanganella and it is not known when the service will be restored.
An undisclosed number of emergency airfields for light planes have been constructed in Indonesian East Borneo, which borders on Sarawak, according to Antara.
