Unconscious Murder

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright)

PRETORIA, March 14.

An African who killed his wife in his sleep was acquitted of murder in Pretoria yesterday. The Court heard that while the man, William Ramalepe, aged 26, was asleep with his wife, he dreamed he was being attacked by a “thing.”

He awoke to discover his wife lying dead on the floor. He was holding an axe.

The Judge said: “In the eyes of the law an act is an act done in a state of consciousness. Ramalepe was not conscious of killing his wife.”
