Croud Riots At Boxing

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) ROME, March 12. A non-title bout between the world welterweight champion, Emile Griffith, and Juan Carlos Duran (Argentina) ended in a near riot last night. The referee stopped the bout in the seventh round when an incensed crowd of 12,000 was pelting both boxers with oranges, bottles and shoes Associated Press reported. Police swarmed into the ring and escorted both men back to their dressing rooms.

The end to the scheduled 10-round bout had come after the referee several times had tried to urge more action from both fighters.
