BAR FOR AIRPORT
Mangere Seeks Licence (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 12. The Auckland Airport Committee today instructed its manager (Mr R. W. G. Emery) to investigate the siting of a liquor bar in Mangere airport’s interim terminal building, and to take the necessary steps to see that a licence is obtained. “I plead that a bar in an international airport is essential, not a luxury,” Sir Keith Park said. The absence of a bar would create a bad impression on overseas visitors. The airport manager had reported that, of 60 airports he visited during his recent overseas tour, only two did not have a bar. The Mayor (Mr D. M. Robinson) said he was “almost a teetotaller,” but the travelling public demanded the right to have whatever they wanted to drink.
