(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright)

PARIS, March 11. A dispute over a book led to a fencing duel in front of Victor Hugo’s house in Paris’s historic Place des Vosges today, the Associated Press reported. Daniel Sermionne Eskenazy, an Italian journalist and author of a book entitled “The Evolution of Italian Communism,” was the victor. Philippe Moedacq, a publicist for the Fayard publishing house, suffered a broken rib. The argument started over a book about Leon Daudiet, a Right-wing agitator of Royalist tendencies in the 19305. The book was written by Pierre Dominique and published by Fayad. Earthy Comments Eskenazy read the book, wrote in some earthy comments about the Dauder family and the author, and sent it back to Fayard. The Fayard editors decided they could not let the incident go unchallenged. Since

the author, Pierre Dominique, is past fighting Philippe Moedacq was enlisted to hold up the honour of Fayard. After one minute of fighting with epees, Moedacq was injured and retired.
