Liston “Scared To Death”
(N.Z. Press Association) MIAMI BEACH, Feb. 18. Cassius Clay, who fights the world heavy-weight champion, Sonny Liston, at Miami Beach next Tuesday, yesterday claimed he had fought badly recently “on purposeotherwise Liston wouldn’t fight me- He’s scared to death.’’ . Clay told reporters that on the night of the title fight “I’m going to walk over to his corner, push him out of the way, and use his resin box. “I’ve got a lot of stuff I haven’t used before—lefthand uppercuts and some other stuff.” Clay also threatened to visit Liston’s home at 3 a.m. one day this week, drive on to his front lawn, and toot his car horn. “He’s going to be all shook up,” said the challenger. “He’s so afraid, he refuses to weigh in with me.
Police will have to keep us ( apart ” Clay, who has promised to 1 crawl across the ring and kiss Liston’s feet if the champion retains the title, ; was asked what he would really do if he lost. “I’ll go to my dressingroom, collect my money and : then go home. What else is there to do?”
