SURVEY BY NAVY

Uncharted Rock (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 18. A Naval survey would be made of the area in which the Japanese fishing vessel Kaiko Maru No. 15 reported she had struck a rock a Naval spokesman said today. The master of the ship reported an unchartered rock four miles north of Astrolabe reef in the Bay of Plenty. The location was eight miles north of Motiti Island, and about 12 miles north-east of Mount Maunganui. Although a new chart had recently been completed of the area in the Bay of Plenty where the ship struck, the rock was not marked. This afternoon the naval survey launch Takapu was to leave Auckland to complete a full survey of the area. She would carry divers to inspect any underwater object found.
