PRESS FOR SCHOOL

Gift From Newspaper

The offer of an old printing press by the Akaroa Mail Company, Ltd., was accepted by the board of governors of the AraniUi High School at its monthly meeting yesterday.

In a letter to th e secretary of the Christchurch PostPrimary Schools Council (Mr P. J. Halligan) the manager of the company (Mr R. Dobbie) said the firm did not need the machine and it was thought a secondary school might be interested in accepting it as a- gift. The machine would need minor adjustments, including some welding before it was in full working order, said the headmaster (Mr W. J. A. Brittenden).

Type will also have to be obtained. It was hand-fed, and run by a quarter horsepower motor.

The press would be most useful, he said.
