NEWS ABOUT AIR RACE
Aero Club’s Attitude The Canterbury Aero. Club intends to make information available -as it comes to hand on the Christchurch-Master-ton-Christchurch air race marking the jubilee of the first flight in Canterbury. .The race rules say that “relevant details” of the race will be available to “purveyors of news” (press, radio, and television) on , condition that they refer to the “1964 Rothman’s air. race. . . . Failing agreement to comply with this requirement, the bodies responsible, for the running of the air race will not release details of it.” The president of the Canterbury Aero Club (Mr G. J. Williamson) said yesterday: “We greatly value the assistance given us by Rothman’s (N.Z.), Ltd., in sponsoring this air race. Such assistance is of tremendous value to the club in carrying out its prime object of furthering interest in • aviation, which it does by affording young people the opportunity of learning to fly at a cost within their means. “Any conditions requested by Rothman’s (N.Z.), Ltd., in the race rules concerning third parties should, I feel, be referred direct to Rothman’s. “It is not the intention of my club to dictate terms to any organisation, particularly our friends the press and thq broadcasting and television services, with whom we have had a long and happy association. “Further, as and when information concerning the race comes to hand, it will be made available in the usual manner,” said Mr Williamson. The Canterbury club is organising the race with the Wairarapa and Ruahine Aero Club.
