HEAVY LIFT GEAR
Japanese Ship Well Equipped Heavy lift gear is the major feature of the Sawayama Steam Ship Company’s single screw motor-vessel, Kanto Maru, which arrived at Lyttelton from Bluff on Sunday. The Kanto Maru. of 8410 tons, has two heavy lift derricks amidships. They have a capacity of 130 tons and 150 tons. There is a smaller heavy lift derrick forward. Paying her first visit to New Zealand, the Kanto Maru is discharging general cargo from Japan and. loading wool and general cargo for return. Normally she trades between Japan and South America and is designed for the carriage of locomotives and rolling stock. The Kanto Maru is commanded by Captain Kazuo Yamaguchi and has a crew of 47. She is under charter to the Osaka Shosen Kaisha Line. She has already visited Auckland, Wellington and Bluff and will sail for Wellington today, after which she will complete loading at Napier, Mount Maunganui and finally Auckland, before sailing for Japan.
