STATUS OF SCIENTISTS
Aust. Minister Critical (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) CANBERRA, February 17. Scientists were being built up as the saviours of mankind, instead of as the means of building up the human race. Senator John Gorton. Minister in charge of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation said today when he opened the third regional meeting of national scientific research organisations in South and South-east Asia. Senator Gorton said there seemed to be a tendency to build the scientist up above the level to which he belonged. Senator Gorton said that where there was a conflict between science and governments as to the direction scientific effort should take, governments should say where most effort should be concentrated. He emphasised that co-operation between scientists and governments was essential. 150 Injured At Circus (N.Z.P.A .-Reuter —Copyright) BOMBAY, February 15.
