Christian Endeavour
Sir, —The executive committee of the Council of Churches at its meeting in Odessa has appealed for cooperative joint plans of disarmament judging on merit, so as to replace competition in arms with co-operation in disarmament. This is of con-
siderable significance as secular necessity rather than I Christian endeavour has so far battled with the criminal hazards of the barbaric ultimate. Ethically retarded nations are not of necessity the underdeveloped ones; in fact, ethical retardation can be illustrated by the lethal level of modern arms. It was in Christian countries that two world wars were fought and destructive atomic energy utilised. In a society where to have is more important than to be, we must eventually distinguish between our needs and greeds, and this movement among 700,000,000 Christians formulates the unifying principle of brotherhood, setting a direction and standard of life for living along the lines of the parabolic teaching so often clouded by man-made dogma.—Yours, etc., WEST WIND.
