Discipline In Fire Brigades
Sir .—Firemen generally will agree’ that a standard disciplinary code would be advantageous. ■ However, it does appear that there should be a discipline code for the fire hoards, which have pressed for this code for some time.. Their reason for having to have such a weapon is to cover up the incompetence of themselves and their chief executive officers. Take a good look at the local fire board:- nine members, eight of whom have probably never seen a fire. On. what authority do they administer the fire brigade? Then, look at the Government. Not once has the responsible Minister been mentioned; only the Minister of Labour has moved to settle disputes that should never have occurred. When you talk of discipline, discipline the employer. The employee will then naturally follow suit. Then and only then will fire brigades and fire boards command national confidence.—Yours, etc.. R.S.V.P. February 15. 1964.
