KILLED IN FALL
Boy’s Death On Hills A boy was killed when he fell about 40ft down a rock bluff below Mary’s Mount Convalescent Home, near the Sign of the Kiwi, about 2.45 p.m. yesterday. He was: Raymond Clark, aged 13, of 23 Johns road, Belfast. A St. John ambulance left Christchurch at 2.55 p.m. and reached the nearest point by road at 3.10 p.m. The driver, Mr Rex Kirk, of 417 Pine avenue, and his assistant, Mr Michael Jones, had to walk some distance over the hills with a stretcher. It took about 10 minutes to find the boy, who was not visible from the top of the bluff. The boy was lying in scrub on his back with one arm twisted under him at the foot of the bluff. Mr Kirk applied mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, and later a respirator was used. When the boy was examined by Dr. E. Turner, he was found to be dead.
The body was strapped to a stretcher and was hauled up the rock face with some difficulty. Sergeant F. Mulcare and Constable' R. Kelso were at the scene.
