TE RAPA STAKES

Black Tudor Wins Easily "The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND, Feb. 16. Black Tudor, a visitor from Awapuni, beat Fencourt and seven other three-year-olds decisively in the Commonwealth Stakes at Te Rapa yesterday. It was his fourth win from his last six starts and a performance that made him look well above average. The. time before Black Tudor took a hack middle-dis-tance at Trentham and his other recent successes were at Woodville in a middledistance and at Awapuni over a mile. On this occasion he went ahead when the pacemaker, Clayton King, gave ground as they began the run home and he was the winner all the way afterward.

Black Tudor is a brown colt by Tauloch from the fine race mare False Step, owned by Messrs J. T. Kelly and A. J. Piilowski and trained by E. G. Rosewarne. He was a solid favourite with a great weight of T.A.B. money and his dividends were £4 4s 6d and £1 Ils. Fencourt, as has been usual in his rapes this season, was a clear favourite each way. When he ran close to the pace-makers with three furlongs to go he looked a real chance. He battled home the last furlong with some credit but Black Tudor had his measure pretty well. Miss Eunice was the next best after Fencburt and Clayton King tired into fourth.

Clayton King took the running straightaway. With a mile to go he was out by three lengths from Black Tudor, Fencourt and Patanga, which were close together. Hi-Minx came next, then Gold Chat, Park Flight, Miss Eunice and Awaroa. Clayton King kept running freely in front, making a fairly easy pace. At the half-mile he was out by four, lengths and in the approach to the straight he led by three lengths from Black Tudor, Fencourt and Hi-Minx.
