3 Stablemates Placed

Van Rush gained a popular win for Mr H. E. Cook, of Ashburton, the vice-president of the New Brighton Trotting Club, when he beat his stablemates, Raft and Young Dieman, in the Pacific Handicap at Addington Raceway on Saturday. Van Rush was driven by M. Holmes, who had won earlier in the night with Idle Man and Central Range.

The scratching of Garrison Royal reduced the race' to two place dividends. Van Rush paid £2 7s for a win and £2 18s for a place.

Van Rush took the lead from. Raven Dew with nine furlongs left Raft was his closest attendant ait the straight entrance, with Raven Dew, Young Dieman, Dark Louise and Johnny Thunder prominent. Van Rush soon raced dear and ran on well to win by three lengths from Raft. Young Dieman was two lengths and a half back, third a length and a half in front of Dark Louise, which shaded Johnny Thunder. Gold Globe was two lengths aiway, a length in front of Raven Dew, with gaps to King Anjou and Lyndhurst. Lyndhurst broke hopelessly, while Raft and Gold Globe gave ground alt the start. Back To Form Peerswick made amends for defeaits at Fortmry Park with a sound sprint win in the Final Handicap. Overnight began best, with Peerswiick- sixth art the end at a funtong. Peerswick was sent up to second before the six furitongs, and a furlong later he went to the front. Peerswick continued to. pace easily racing to the straight, where Overnight, Morsel, Maggie Spangler, Pennside Ind and Mountain Song were showing up. Peerswick ran out the last furlong in grand style and won haindffly ' by a length. Overnight paced an improved race for second, two lengths in front of Maggie Spangler, which showed speed after tangling ait the start Glen,urquhart broke and looked to be out of the race after 50 yards. He showed great speed to finish fourth a length back, clear of Morsel, with Mountain Song, well clear of Femside Lad, Thunderbolt and Lord Mina. Land Mina and Sirretta aileo gave ground ait the start.

Overdue Win Central Range, which had been pieced in six of his previous seven starts, gained a well-earned win in the Esplanade Handicap, The Stormyway gelding is raced in partnership by Mr H. R. Monk, of Greymouth, and the Templeton trainer, C. R. Berketit. He was driven by M. Holmes, who had him prominently placed ail the way. He moved him out when Worthy Dieman tired Inside the last three furlongs. Central Range followed Johnny Dean, Jilaire, Soanfra, Aiblins and Parados into the straight and ran out the last furlong too strongly lor the others to win by one length.

Soanfra dad well to finish second after being forced over a lot of extra ground. He was two lengths in front of Aiblins. which shaded Johnny Deen by a nose. Miriam Hall made ground for fifth a head beck, with Bluff an unlucky sixth a neck further back, with the same distance to Jilaire, which was clear of Parados and Captain Dee. Massacre, King Clovis, Gap* tain Dee, Bobcat, Betharry and miriam Hall lost ground at the start. Bethany, Mile End and Bobcat met trouble when Worthy Dieman stopped irside the last three furlongs.

At Long Odds Acquit gained his first win for the season when he beat the strongly-supported Halberg, by a length in the Walmairi Handicap.. Acquit was a good way back early, but he improved gradually and was fourth in to. the straight Halberg raced clear at the furlong and looked in for an easy win. However, he was soon in trouble and Acquit outfinished him by a length. Halberg received a perfect run and was a shade disappointing. Elpestre was never far away and held on for third a head back, well clear of Medieval, which . broke several times. Macnamara and Asia Minor made up a lot of ground for fifth and sixth respectively, with a nose between them. Pieta and Ali Bey were next Itie Oamaru-owned and trained mare, Strip, came out on top In a close finish to the Burwood Handicap. She made all of the pace, but was passed by Talent inside the furlong. However, she came again and beat Talent by half a neck. GOI4 Maru, which did not secure a clear run in the straight, looked most unlucky when she finished third a head away, half a length in front of Forshy, which

made up ground. Legendary, a slow beginner, did well to finish fifth a length back, just ahead of Wendy Dawn, Kilkivan, Flying Ailsa, Surveyor and Light Rain. Second Win Turbulence, which is owned in Sydney by Mr H. R. Brien, gained her second win from her last three starts when she outclassed her rivals in the Wainoni Handicap. She was a little slow at the start, but improved to third racing to the straight She soon mastered the leaders and finnshed full of running to win by three lengths and a half.

Orangapai was in the first three all the way and battled on for second, a length in front of Bruce, which came home well to beat Paddy’s Night by a length and a half for third- Megaton and Ruapuna were right up, clear of Scotty McCoy.

Idle Man was patiently driven by M Holmes to win the two-mile Marine Handicap. He gradually improved along the inside and was fourth at the straight entrance. He came through the middle of the leaders early in the run home and did not have to be driven out to win by a length.

Safe Flight, a alow beginner, made up ground for second, ahead of Khraizon, which received the run of the race. The favourite, Flying Over, was a good way from the lead most of the way and met a slight check inside the last three furlongs. He was a fair fourth, clear of Disperse. Obituary MR W. G. DEYELL The death has occurred In Christchurch of Mr W. G. Deyell, who had a long association with trotting as an owner. Mr Deyell was well known ip Christchurch as a cartage contractor, controlling a business started by his father, the late Mr J. Deyell, who also raced trotters and pacers.

Mr Deyell was one of the first members of the Canterbury Trotting Owners’ and Breeders’ Association, an organisation to which he was elected a life member some years ago.

Mr Deyell usually had a horse or two In work. C. S. Donald and the late A. Butterfield did much of his training, while A. M. Purdon also trained winners for him.

Mr Deyell for a time raced Red Shadow, one of the outstanding pacers of 30 years ago, while Claremorriß and Solicitor were good winners for him. In more recent times he enjoyed success with Josephine, Snuffbox and Medora Star. He was also the owner of a recent placegetter in Storm Water.

Stanorma Out For Month (N.Z. Preu Association) INVERCARGILL, Feb. 16. Stanorma (G. R. Shirley) ran out at the start of the President's Handicap at Invercargill on Saturday and interfered with Garrison Girl and Winabob, both of which lost a lot of ground.
