PHYSICIANS’ APPEAL

Aid For Young Doctors An appeal would be launched concurrently both in New Zealand and Australia later in the year by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, said its president (Dr. Morvyn Williams) on the final day of the college’s annual meeting in Christchurch on Saturday. The appeal was aimed at assisting young New Zealand doctors. It coincides with the college’s jubilee. Dr. Williams said that members and fellows of the college had laid a solid foundation for the appeal fund. The New Zealand fellows and members had raised more than £lB,OOO from their own resources over a five-year period. Dr. G, Riley, of Christchurch, said on Saturday that a great dead of original work in medicine was being done by a new generation of physicians. The college, he said, was primarily concerned with the encouragement of these young doctors. The college was doing everything within its power to provide the means to enable the best young doctors to be trained in scientific medicine. Some of this training could be obtained in New Zealand. Beyond that young doctors needed to go overseas. Dr. Riley said that clinical case presentations were made during the conference by New Zealand physicians with the aid of modern photographic equipment They indicated the great advances made in diagnosis and treatment since World War IL
