Canadian Air Chief Here For Talks
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 16. The Canadian Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal C. R. Dunlap, arrived today for talks with members of the Air Board. He will attend the Air Force display at Ohakea on Saturday.
Air Marshal Dunlap was accompanied by his wife, his executive assistant, Squadron Leader R. B. Button, executives of Canadair, Ltd., Montreal, and a military party en route to Australia. Their Rolls-Royce-powered
R.C.A.F. Yukon, a lengthened version of the Bristol Britannia, will be demonstrated at the air show. It arrived just before 10.30 am. after a 14hr 30min flight from Honolulu. Co-operation between the Canadian and New Zealand Air Forces had not been as close in recent years as during the war, said Air Marshal Dunlap, but he thought an exchange of staff between the two forces could be a natural development Canada was no longer developing large aircraft “from scratch” but manufactured planes under licence. However, a transport, the Caribou, and a further line of jet trainers in the Tudor CL-41 series were being developed.
The Canadair executives, Mr G. Notrnan (president) and Mr P. Redpath, are here with their wives on a business visit They will discuss with Government representatives the possible purchase by New Zealand of a CL-41 trainer. Similar aircraft are in quantity production for the R.CA.F, The military party comprised the deputy Chief of General Staff in the Canadian Army, Brigadier W. S. Murdoch, the Quarter-master-General, Brigadier D. A. G. Waldeck, and the director of equipment and policy and general staff officer, Lieutenant-Colonel W. D. H; Frink.
Accompanied by Lieu-tenant-Colonel W. H. Wansley, of the Australian Embassy staff in Washington, they are on tiheir way to Australia for discussions with Army chiefs there.
