Regimental Badge

Sir,—As a former member of the Canterbury Regiment, I don’t think much of the badge shown and described in Saturday’s paper, and which, as that of. the Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment, replaces that of the Canterbury Regiment, our own provincial regiment, the senior infantry regiment in New Zealand. Where is the tradition which bound all ranks for 100 years and symbolised in th* badge? The badge of the Canterbury Regiment is the white Heron and the moto “Ake Ake Kia Kaha”—we will fight on for ever and ever.” Why change for the sake of change? Wake up South Island and stop the North Island robbing us of our traditions as well as most other things. Carry on, the band of the Canterbury Regiment and know that many are in support.—Yours, etc., ONE WHO SERVED. February 16, 1964.
