Sampler Fancied In Rangitikei Cup
“The Press” Special Service
WELLINGTON, Feb. 14. The Awapuni trainer, T. R. Howe, Intends to make an offseason raid on Flemington with Apa for next month’s Australian Cup. By way of a preliminary today Sampler could take the wraps off Howe’s good luck in the Rangitikei Cup. For the open sprint, the Mangatapu Handicap, Arbelle sprinted her way into calculations with an impressive gallop at Trentham on Thursday. Sampler is fresh and working well. She is a free galloper and the ability to stay near, the leaders is more of an asset on the Bulls track than most courses. The best recent form is that of the unpredictable Commodore Roberts. He was a fair third in the Wanganui Cup after being checked soon after the start. He has won richer races than the Rangitikei Cup under L. K. Tinsley, who rides him today. Beilarook has a good record in open sprints and he too likes his own rules best, but he gives Arbelle 15 pounds. Tahi receives three from her and at the weight will be among the fastest. The track is fast.
