PIPELINE FLOATED
Fuel For Deep Cove (N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Feb. 14. For the first time in New Zealand a floating pipeline has been used to transfer fuel from the ship to shore tanks. The 18.000-ton tanker, Camilla, arrived at Doubtful Sound this week wtih more than 500,000 gallons of diesel fuel for that section of the Manapouri power project. The six-inch diameter line, more than 900 feet long, was designed by Mobil Oil and built in New Zealand by the project’s joint contractors. The Camilla, the biggest ship to discharge cargo at Deep Cove, pumped 370,000 gallons of diesel fuel through the line into three shore tanks, and 157,000 gallons into the bunker tanks of the floating hostel, Wanganella. Fuel discharged will meet the project’s needs for two to three months. The next delivery should be made by tanker from the Whangarei refinery. This week’s discharge was supervised by the Marine Department’s nautical adviser, Captian H. Ruegg.
