FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT . Situation.—An anti-cyclone lies north-east of the Chatham Islands and a ridge of high pressure extends over the country. A small depression and a weak frontal system cover the Tasman Sea. Forecast: Canterbury, Marlborough and Nelson.—Light to moderate variable winds; north-easterlies predominating on the Canterbury and Marlborough coasts and northerlies near. Nelson; areas of fog or low cloud night and morning, otherwise fine, with warm day temperatures. Buller and Westland.—Light variable winds; partly cloudy, with a few showers developing, mainly near the ranges; mild temperatures. Outlook.—All districts: little change. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
