BRITONS IN TOP PLACES
Monte Carlo Car Rally (N.Z.P.A .-Reuter—Copyright) MONTE CARLO, January 24 Britain scored a major triumph in the Monte Carlo motor-car rally yesterday when Paddy Hopkirk, of Belfast, was declared the winner, Mrs Pat Moss-Carlsson won the women’s race, and B.M.C. took the two main team prizes. Hopkirk, aged 30, scored the first victory in the rally for Britain for eight years. The co-driver with Hopkirk. in a Morris Cooper, was Henry Liddon, a Bristol car salesman. Mrs Moss-Carlsson finished fifth in the general classification—the highest placing ever achieved by a woman driver—and won the women’s race for the fourth time.
