AUST. GIRL TRIUMPHS
Miss Peters Beaten, 3-1 (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 14. The long-hititing New South Wales player, Miss Diana Cross, won the junior girls’ sponsored golf tournament at Hutt today when she beat Miss Dawn Peters (Maramarua), 3 and 1, in the final. In a match brimming with incident, the New Zealander kept Miss Cross fully extended. Miss Peters was steady in her approach shots, but her putting was erratic. Twice she three-putted, although she also sank a 45footer from the edge of the sixth green. In the semi-finals, Miss Peters added another New South Wales scalp to her collection. After yesterday’s victory over the former Australian senior champion, Miss Beatrice Hayley, she scored a surprisingly comfortable win over Miss Marea Hickey, 5 and 3. In her semi-final, Miss Cross went out in a three-under-scratch 32, including birdies on the first, second, and ninth holes, to beat Miss Heather Booth (Gisborne), 3 and 2. Other results were:—
Flight.—Final: Miss G. Bawden (Auckland) beat Miss J. Hanratty (Hutt), 6 and 4. Medal.—Miss J. Butler (Rotorua), 73, 3—70; Miss J. Mancell (N.S.W.), 76, 5—71; Miss K. Houghton (Hamilton), 82, 9—71; Miss S. Turvey (Rotorua), 81, 3—78; Miss B. Hayley (N.S.W.), 83, 4—79.
Boy’s Championship. Semifinals: N. Nankivell (Manor Park) beat P. Clothier (Hutt), 2 and 1; J. Marsden (Manor Park) beat M. Collins (Manor Park), 3 and 2. Final: Marsden beat Nankivell, 2 and 1.
