NO RUGBY STAMP
IS.Z. Left OH Calendar “The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND, Jan. 13. Because New Zealand has never issued a postage stamp commemorating Rugby football, the country has missed a chance of appearing on a calendar sent throughout the world by the Asahi Chemical Industry Company, of Japan. On each of the 366 days of the 1956 calendar there is a postage stamp depicting sport The stamps for Rugby are from France, Fiji, Rumania, and Chechoslovakia. “We restrict our issues to matters of national importance and centennials,” said a Post Office spokesman; but sports have appeared on health stamps mountain climbing (1937 and 1954), yachting (1951), and surf life-saving (1957). Among the sports stamps on the calendar are:—Soccer: Luxembourg, Dutch West Indies, Venezuela, Ghana, Sudan, Spain, and Bolivia; tennis: Bulgaria, Lichenstein, Liberia, San Marino, Monaco, Costa Rica, Nicaragua; baseball: Japan, Venezuela, Panama, Liberia, Cuba, Nicaragua, and Colombia.
