Work For Disabled Men
Sir, —Little light work for physically disabled men is available locally. All the Government does is to pay out unemployment benefits and hold a survey Of existing facilities. These people are a big loss to our economy at a time when industrial expansion is necessary to preserve our overseas funds. An all-out training effort is also necessary to help these people from becoming chronic invalids because of unemployment worries. How about forming a local advisory committee to place these people and look after their welfare? Perhaps our Mayor could convene a meeting of say the manufacturers, State Services Commission, Social Security Department, Health Department, Labour Department, Education Department, insurance companies, Crippled Children Society, Employers’ Association, trade unions, and the Hospital Board. Local members of Parliament and either the Minister of- Labour or the Minister of Health could be also invited.—Yours, DISILLUSIONED NATIONALIST. January 13, 1964.
