Transfer To Cutter Off Heads

A sick seaman was landed at Lyttelton early yesterday morning by the pilot cutter Wairangi after a rendezvous with the motor vessel Sydney Star about two miles off the Lyttelton heads. David Lloyd Hewitt, aged about 45, was taken by the Lyttelton ambulance to the Christchurch Hospital where he was operated on for a perforated ulcer. His condition last evening was satisfactory. When a radio mesage requesting medical assistance was received, at the Lyttelton signal tower, the Deputy Harbourmaster. Captain J. Duncan, ordered the Wairangi away. The cutter sailed at 10 pin., with Dr. N. D. Walker and two ambulance men, Messrs E. G. Gealey and M. Kay, aboard and met the Sydney : Star an hour later. The. sick man was lowered i into the Wairangi by the Sydney Star’s cargo gear. The , Wairangi reached Lyttelton at 1 a.m.
