Hawkes Plays With Injury

(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON. January 13. A player whose chances may already have been affected at the national tennis championships is R. N. Hawkes, of Wellington, a recent finalist in the Canterbury championships and the conqueror of L. A. Gerrard in the Wellington championships. Seeded fifth for the title. Hawkes has. strained a stomach muscle. He had to have an injection before play today. Even then the injury hurt him when he was serving. But Hawkes still won his single against D. Cassidy (North Shore),'6-0, 6-0, 6-2.
