All Blacks May Play In Anniversary Matches

[From T. P. McLEAN, Sports Editor of the "New Zealand Herald”!

ILKLEY, Jan. 12 Four leading member of the touring AU Blacks’ team —W. J. Whineray, D. B. Clarke, C. E. Meads and K. R. Tremadn—will be invited to play in the matches which the South African Rugby Board plans to stage in celebration of its 75th anniversary in May. This was announced during the week-end by the president of the board, Dr. Dame Craven. He did not name the players belonging to the four Home Unions and Australia, who would receive invitations through their associations. However, it is understood that K. Catchpole, the Wallaby half-back, and G. Davis, the New Zealand loose forward who has settled in Sydney, will be among those invited to the three-match week-long tournament. Although the New Zealand Rugby Council resolved some time ago not to allow more

than three All Blacks to visit the Republic instead of the seven whom the South African Board desired to invite, it is considered unlikely that any bar will be placed upon the visit of Whineray, Meads, Clarke and Tremain.
