Incentive For Waggon Use

WELLINGTON, December 27. To encourage greeter use of railway waggons during the holiday period, the Railways Department is again offering a rebate in freight rates on bulk fertiliser traffic railed between December 21 and January 15. The general manager of railways. Mr A. T. Gandell, said this week that orders for the current season indicated that about 57.000 tons would be conveyed under the scheme this year compared with some 38,000 tons last year.

By increasing the demand for waggons during the holidays, he said, the arrangement was designed to make moire available for other traffic after the holidays.
