ANTARCTIC AIR SERVICE
R.N.Z.A.F. May Use DC6 Planes
"The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON, December 27. DC6 aircraft of the Royal New Zealand Air Force may provide a transport service to the Antarctic next year. The Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice-Marshal I. G. Morrison, told a conference in Wellington that his recent visit to the Antarctic had convinced him that the R.N.Z.A.F. should fly the New Zealand parties there at the start of the season in its own aircraft. “We should be able to operate DC6 flights there next year.” he said. “I feel there are no complicaitions for us in this, but I have asked the appropriate staffs to have a look into it. “It will be first-class training for our crews and will break new ground. I think we can do this with a DC6 aircraft.
“I hope we shall not have to wait until we have Hercules transports.”
