Jin Turner, aged 19, yesterday broke two of Dawn Fraser’s Victorian record# in special time trials conducted by the Victorian Amateur Swimming Association at the Olympic Stadium Pool. Jan won the 440yds freestyle in smin B.2sec to slice 4.lsec off Dawn Fraser’s Victorian record, and 20min later won the 110yds butterfly in Imin 14.0 sec to clip 2.6 sec off Dawn’s State record. Marlene Dayman, who is 14, struck a claim for consideration for Olympic Games selection when she bettered Dawn Fraser’s Victorian 440 yd freestyle record again less than an hour after Jan’s excellent swim. Marlene won the junior 440 yd freestyle in smin 11.4 sec to chop lO.lsec off the State junior record held by Nonna Rhode, and to better Dawn’s senior record by 9-10 sec.
