Gifts For St. Helens

Mothers and babies who will be in St. Helens Hospital over Christmas will receive

gifts from the Friends of St. Helens, members of which will also help decorate the wards, says a report from the executive of the Canterbury Federation of Country Women’s Institutes. The Friends of St. Helens scheme is run by the C.W.I. Institutes throughout the federation had been holding Christmas parties, and many had entertained persons from homes, or those living alone, and had given them gifts, it was reported.

The federation will assist with the catering for the regional conference of the National Council of Women in March. The sum of £3OO had been given to the Government for the Queen Elizabeth Arts Council fund, by the Dominion Federation. Institutes had collected for Pennies for Friendship. Mrs W. G. McKechnie has been appointed convener of the drama committee for the 1964 Dominion drama district festivals.
