The Department of Modern Langauges at present includes Chairs of French. German and Russian and applications are currently being invited for appointment to a Chair of Linguistics. It is anticipated that in 1964 the German Section will have approximately 300 students and a full-time staff of 14. Although an elementary course in German is chiefly responsible for the large numbers both of students and staff, the Section is rapidly expanding its research activities and adequate funds are available for this purpose. Applications are invited from specialists in any field of German studies who possess a higher degree in German (Ph.D., Dr. Phil.) and several years' University teaching experience. The successful applicant will be teaching in the pass and honours schools and will be encouraged to give courses in his own field of interest. SALARY: £ A2700-£ A 3250.
