FIRST-CLASS MATCHES

New Status Agreed (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Nov. 29 A new classification for first-class Rugby matches in New Zealand was approved by the council of the New Zealand Rueby Football Union in Wellington today. The new status of these matches, to operate from next season, will be:— 1. International matches. 2. North Island v. South Island. 3. New Zealand trial games. 4. Inter-provincial matches between senior teams of unions, provided one of the ‘earns engaged is the union's A team. 5. Matches played by New Zealand Maori teams, against provincial senior teams or teams of higher status. 6. Matches played by New Zealand universities teams against provincial senior teams or teams of higher status. 7. Matches played by New Zealand Services teams, against provincial senior A teams or teams of higher status. 8. Such other matches as the council may from time to time determine.

The British Isles Rugby team will probably play 25 matches in New Zealand in 1966. after starting the tour in Australia.
