Learning To Swim Urged
Non-swimmers are urged to Iwrn, and parents urged to teach their children to swim, in a message issued by the secretary of the National Water Safety Committee (Mr S. V. Higgins). As well as being a pleasure, swimming is an ability that gives more confidence when athing, fishing, or boating, he says. Mr Higgins says bathers should bathe in flagged-off areas patrolled by life saving patrols. At beaches without patrols they should avoid “dumpers.” dirty water and strong currents. They should not bathe alone in areas with danger signs. Rivers and creeks can be rqore dangerous than beaches, Mr Higgins says. They change without warning and hide dangerous snags, boulders and tree trunks. Their cold water can cause cramps.
