c Off Taxpayer's Back’ CN Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) NEW YORK, November 20. American taxpayers would welcome Cambodia’s renunciation of United States aid, the “Chicago Tribune” said today. The newspaper said in an editorial: "Cambodia, a selfstyled neutralist South-east Asia nation, yesterday renounced all United States aid and ordered the immediate withdrawal of American military and civilian advisers. “Cambodia’s rubber stamp Congress acted after the Chief of State, Prince Norodom Sihanouk, accused the United States Government of backing a rebel movement to unseat him.
"Snooks, as the princely politician is known to his friends, said nothing about giving up any aid from the Soviet Union or Red China. “He had, in fact, disturbed Americans by announcing plans to bring in Chinese economic advisers from Peking, where his 18-year-old son and political heir-apparent has been studying under Red China’s leaders. “The Prince’s reasons for giving up 10.4 million dollars a year in economic aid and 18.8 million dollars in military aid may be a mystery, but Sihanouk says thousands of his followers applaud. So will thousands of American taxpayers. “SnooKs Is the first recipient of handouts to climb off the taxpayer’s back of his own volition,” the newspaper said.
